We conduct mold hazard assessments. We provide advice on the potential health effects of mold. Our specialty is mold (fungal) sampling using recognized scientific principles. We can advise how to make your indoor environment safe for you or your staff.
We conduct all types of sampling & analysis, from dusts & chemicals to microorganisms. We interpret results in terms of human health effects and control measures.
MOLD HAZARD ASSESSMENT
Our services are more health-based than typical mold inspections. We inform you of how mold can impact your health. Our solutions give ways to protect yourself and your staff.
We conduct indoor air quality sampling for many airborne contaminants; dusts, chemicals off-gassing from carpets & furniture, bacteria, and toxins from microorganisms. With new technology, we can detect airborne chemicals in the parts per million or billion range.
Elements in the indoor environment may cause illness. With the help of interviews and inspections, we can often determine the environmental factors that are contributing to the illness or discomfort.
Mold health effects are important because different molds cause different health effects in humans. Mold should not be growing in indoor environments, but some fungi are more hazardous to health than others. Fungi produce spores which can be inhaled when airborne. This can lead to health effects through allergy or irritation. Some molds are toxigenic, that is, they produce mycotoxins. These are toxic chemicals that can also be be released into the indoor atmosphere. Finally, some people may develop mold infections. Most healthy people will not experience serious symptoms to airborne mold unless the concentrations are excessive or they are allergic. Immuno-compromised individuals may experience symptoms at lower airborne mold concentrations & these infections may require hospitalization.
We conduct building inspections, moisture assessment, air quality, and HVAC reviews. We survey buildings for environmental health & safety hazards.
We conduct sampling for live mold or spores. Live mold is confirmed when small fragments (mold pieces or spores) are captured and grow in culture. These growth colonies are considered to have originated from a unit of live mold called a 'Colony Forming Unit'.
Mold also produces spores (hard shelled units that are the reproductive mechanism of the mold). They are very small particles that can be inhaded. They can be live (capable of reproducing), or dead. However, spores in the air can still cause health effects even when they are dead.
